Fear Not

This is the piece that I showed earlier in the week. I liked the way it looked. I just thought it needed something to add interest. That spot in the bottom center is where I went with it. The image is ethereal so, I added some emotion. I titled it “Inside Out”. It’s 22”x28”, oil on canvas.

I think that hiding in all that calm above is an awareness of those dark, sneaky feelings that sabotage so much of who we are and want we are capable of doing. Call it fear. Call it insecurity. Call it a nasty name. If we are honest with ourselves, we can accept that it’s a part of who we are.

Most of us deal with fear on a near constant basis. Fear of failing. Fear of succeeding. The fear of making a mistake and looking incompetent or weak. Experience tells us that people who are successful are the ones that face their fears and do it anyway. Easy, right? Just that easy and just that difficult.

As for myself, I know that fear has been a huge hindrance in my own life. My palms get sweaty just sharing these posts, but you know what? I do it anyway. Age is greatly beneficial when it comes to doing it anyway. You don’t care so much about what other people think as when you’re young. I have been able to get past the fear of trying to keep things neutral and not express my opinions and values. While I don’t go out of my way to offend, if you are, that’s on you.

Anyway, here it is. The finished painting.
