One of the nice things about having a blog that doesn’t get read much is that, short of threatening to kill anyone, I can pretty much write whatever I want to write. Today it’s more of my world views. Take them or leave them.
These are by far the strangest of times. As far as I can tell anyway. It’s a scientific fact that the older we get, the more we think things are “getting bad”. If you don’t believe me, just start that conversation with someone over the age of 50.
One of the things that I see as evidence to the strange times is this growing interest in UFO’s or UAV’s as Congress, CONGRESS has started calling them. Sure, there has always been some interest. Just look at the Blue Book episode. I think there are two main reasons for this. One is the fact that humans have finally come to realize that we just very well may need a plan B. The other is the cultist mentality that seems to have grabbed so many people.
We know there has been a lot of pondering about the cult of Trump. Many experts in psychology suggest that it has to do with egos and self-esteem. The people that are most susceptible to conspiracy theories are usually people that deep-down feel that their lack of knowledge and education has them at a huge disadvantage. Especially white people who have been brought up to believe that their whiteness has given them some kind of privilege. I like how Dave Chappelle put it, (I’m paraphrasing here) “I was poor growing up. So were a lot of white people. The difference is they didn’t believe they were supposed to be poor ". They feel that they have obtained some “insider” truth that the rest of us are too naive or dumb to realize. It gives them a sense of belonging to a special group of “truth seekers”. The human need for belonging is very strong.
A lot of things make more sense seen through that lens. I’m not an elitist by their standards. I didn’t graduate from college. I never rose up in the corporate ladder. And, yet, here I am. A liberal. How does that even happen? Strange times.
