Will She, Or Won't She?

Courage To Encourage, 18"x24"

I’ve never considered myself to be the most prolific artist. I generally produce about one piece per week. Still, I am accumulating a large inventory of work. Of course, like most everything this past year and a half, I haven’t had much opportunity to show other than on the internet. I’m also the first to admit that I’m not a big fan of keeping up with social media.

Here’s the thing. A few days ago, I received a phone call from someone who identified themselves as representing the Maitland Rotary Art Festival, here in Maitland, FL. I was late to the festival circuit. I didn’t do any until 2016. Even then I only participated for about three years. I stopped. It was easier to sell locally then and I had had enough of the travel and honestly, the hard work involved in setting up and taking down. I even went so far as to sell my display racks.

Then, I get this call. I couldn’t help wondering, is it a sign? Don’t get me wrong. There are a lot of positive aspects to being in these shows. There’s camaraderie and perks and, of course, the sales. So, I did it. I applied. I won’t know for a few weeks if I have been accepted. You’ll either see an announcement or not.

If not accepted, I have to wonder why the phone call? Did you just need my jury fee? If accepted, I have a lot of preparation ahead of me. Assuming, of course, that it won’t be cancelled thanks to COVID.

The trials and tribulations! Stay tuned.
